The Copyright Act allows companies and organisations to copy, scan or make protected works available digitally for internal purposes.

Such use is permitted provided that royalties are paid. ProLitteris ensures that your organisation complies with these requirements correctly and efficiently in accordance with GT 8.

Scope

Which companies and organisations are required to pay remuneration?

GT 8 applies to all organisations that use works internally – regardless of sector or legal form.

This includes

  • Companies in all sectors (manufacturing, trade, commerce, services)
  • Public administrations, commissions, institutes
  • Associations, societies, NGOs
  • Third parties such as copying services, documentation and media monitoring services

The tariff applies in Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein.

How is the royalty for internal use calculated?

Royalties are paid as an annual lump sum and are based, depending on the type of organisation, on:

  • Number of full-time positions in companies
  • Population in the case of cantons and municipalities
  • an additional media monitoring fee, if internal media monitoring is used
  • Details of devices or types of use
